The history of Grace Overseas
Grace Overseas has built a legacy of excellence in the global freight forwarding industry, earning a reputation as a trusted and highly sought-after partner for businesses worldwide.
With decades of experience navigating the complexities of international trade, we have continually evolved to meet the ever-changing demands of the sector. Our commitment to efficiency, reliability, and innovation has cemented our status as a leader in freight transportation, offering seamless solutions that connect markets across the globe.
From humble beginnings to our current status as a powerhouse in logistics, our journey reflects a dedication to service, expertise, and customer satisfaction that sets us apart from our competition.
Grace Overseas was founded by Peter and Veronica Cooney, leveraging their combined 40+ years of experience in the freight industry. Named after Peter’s mother, the company began its journey in South Manchester with a strong network of connections in the local freight community behind it.
Grace Overseas achieved the prestigious BS5750 certification for quality systems, becoming one of the first freight forwarding companies to do so. 1992 also saw us open our first large warehouse, paving the way for what will later be known as GO Logistics & Storage, our 3PL warehousing and fulfilment service.
At the age of 15, Sarah Taylor, daughter of founders Peter and Veronica, officially started her career in the warehouse at Grace Overseas, laying the foundation for her future leadership.
Sarah Taylor succeeded her father, Peter Cooney, as Managing Director, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the family business.
Grace Overseas opened a second premises in Crawley, West Sussex in February 2017, supporting the company's growth strategy in southern England.
Back in Manchester, operations were moved to a larger facility, further expanding our service offering and capabilities.
Sarah’s husband, Brian Taylor joined the business as Commercial Manager, reinforcing the company’s commitment to family values.
In 2021, we acquired a 40,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Manchester, facilitating the launch of GO Logistics and Storage and cementing our status as industry leaders in warehousing and fulfilment.
Sarah’s daughter, Grace, joined the team as a Warehouse Operative, marking the third generation of family involvement.
Grace Overseas also retained its ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications, reinforcing the company's commitment to quality and safety.
2024 is the year that Grace Overseas' reputation as an award-winning business was confirmed, seeing the team take home trophies at the North West Family Business Awards and the SME News Business Elite Awards, as well as three at the Chemical Business Association’s annual awards, the ‘Chemmies’.
Sarah Taylor celebrated 30 years in the business and was officially welcomed onto the Chemical Business Association Council.
