History of Grace Overseas

Grace Overseas (GO) has a rich history in the logistics sector, one that places us in the enviable position as a reputable, respected and highly sought-after freight company.

GO was established in 1985 by Peter and Veronica Cooney, both of whom brought to the business over 40 years of experience in the freight industry. Named after Peter’s mother, Grace Overseas benefited from the strong network of contacts that Peter and Veronica had built in the Manchester area, and with family members taking up prominent positions at the Salford and Manchester docks, the business thrived.

To this day GO remains a family run business, with Peter and Veronica’s daughter, Sarah Taylor taking over as Managing Director. With countless members of the GO team having been with us since incorporation we can state with confidence that we know and understand the industry inside out.

Our accreditations

In 1992, Grace Overseas became one of the first freight forwarding companies to receive the prestigious BS5750 accreditation for ‘quality systems’. We are also delighted to have maintained our Alcumus Iosqar accreditation, Investors in People and Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) accreditation, which evidences our position as a secure, efficient and compliant part of the international supply chain.

To support GO’s growth strategy a southern office was opened in West Sussex. This allows us to further service our existing client base, as well as provide further capabilities for organic growth.

GO’s strategic
development plans

As a family business, ensuring this office was run by industry experts that shared our business ethos was vital, and therefore we successfully appointed, Paul Morfett as Director of our southern office, who brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the logistics industry.

As our service capabilities grow, we continue to make vital connections with industry leaders across the globe to ensure our services surpass the expectations of our clients.

Now with an ever-growing customer base, we have invested in a number of areas in order to further improve communication channels. In order to achieve this, it is essential that we have a multi-lingual workforce.

Operations Director Kevin Frouin, fluent in both French and Spanish, and Octavian Groza who speaks Romanian, have both cultivated fantastic relationships with clients and contacts throughout Europe and further afield, ensuring that the entire process is clear, accurate and reliable for all customers.

GO’s dedication to the
environment

GO is and has been totally committed to the protection of the working and living environment as well as the conservation of resources. We recognise however, by the very nature of the services we offer that, from time to time we operate in very environmentally hostile situations. We do all that is reasonable and practical to minimise any further impact we have on the environment through our operations.

GO’s charity work

At GO we are heavily involved in charity work in the Manchester area, supporting Children’s Genetic and Metabolic Diseases, Alzheimer’s Society and MacMillan Cancer Support.
