On Wednesday 8th February Grace Overseas founder, Peter Cooney sadly passed away at home surrounded by family, following a 15-year battle with Alzheimer’s; he fought bravely and with dignity until the end.

Remembering Peter

The son of a docker, Peter naturally spent lots of time around the docks as a young boy, growing an interest in freight. It seemed destiny therefore, that he would go on to have a successful career in the industry and after working extremely hard for many years, in 1985 Peter and his wife Veronica made the decision to establish their own business and Grace Overseas was born.

As you would expect with a long history and career, there were many highlights for Peter over the years. One high in particular saw him open his first freight terminal in 1992, with United idol Bryan Robson formally opening the office. Now 38 years later, Grace Overseas continues to thrive, headed by Peter and Veronica’s daughter, Sarah.

Outside of work Peter enjoyed a rich life, including family holidays, playing football and bowling, trips to the races, and many fabulous times in Vegas.

Peter’s family, including wife Veronica, daughter, Sarah and son, Paul have said:

“Whoever you are, however you came into contact with our Dad, you’d have been touched and would definitely have remembered him in some way. Thank you for all the messages, cards, and flowers we have received.”

On behalf of Grace Overseas, we are remembering the wonderful life of Peter. He will be missed by all and it was an honour to work alongside him.

Rest in peace Peter.
